Swimming in the fjord and hiking on Storåsen

Buga: 07.06.2020

Day two of quarantine

The abundance of light makes me active. So I took the morning to tidy up and organize my room – something I had actually planned to do before Christmas...

In the evening, just as I was getting cozy in bed with a book, my roommates asked if we wanted to go to the beach. We grabbed our bikes and our go-kart and off we went. The beach, also called Badevika, is actually a meadow by the fjord where it gets shallow for a short distance into the water and then there is a ledge. Usually the beach would be rocky, but they bought some sand and piled it up and installed a diving board.

While I only waded in the water - after all, I shouldn't catch a cold, the symptoms of corona and a cold are too similar - my roommates were swimming in the cold water. The outside temperature was only 14°C, but they told me that was almost summer.

Later in the evening, around midnight, we took a little bike ride and it was still light, almost like at the beginning of twilight. And that is exactly the challenge: on the one hand, you are more active and use more energy, but on the other hand, you sleep less and get less energy. It feels as if the energy that was missing back in winter is now coming forth in full abundance.

Day three of quarantine

Today is Sunday and that's when I officially start my first hike. There is a program here where you have to have been to ten peaks by October and then you get a t-shirt and can win a voucher. And that's exactly my plan for the quarantine.

This morning I started with Alex on the lowest mountain, Storåsen. The ascent was really steep, so we had to take breaks again and again - especially since we hadn't been hiking properly in a long time. Then we discovered this waterfall that we absolutely want to show Alba and Bilal.

After we had overcome the first steep part, we continued on a narrow path through the forest before the last section became even steeper.

At the summit, we first registered in the hiking association's app and then that we had reached the summit (you have to be at least 100 m away from it).

After a short break, we started our way back without breaks and in much less time. After a 10-minute drive, we were back at the volunteer house and had lunch.

I spent the afternoon reading. In the evening, we tried to make a vegan cake (we used too much banana, so now we can spoon it) and at around 10pm we went to the beach again and Alba took a dip in the water while Alex and I almost froze on the shore because the sun was behind the mountain and the wind was picking up.
