We continue on to a peninsula near Christchurch. Roughly comparable for Germans with THE holiday island of Rügen. Unfortunately, we didn't think enough about the fact that it's still the winter holidays. And so it happens for the first time that we are turned away from the campsite because it is fully booked. We'll be lucky next time and get a free spot. We are planning a 20 km hike with Komoot. It starts in the blazing sun with the entire 960 meters in altitude in just 6 km. I'm sweating incredibly and am happy about every little branch that casts a little shadow. Shortly before we reach the top there is a light cool wind and a few clouds. We fight our way through tall grass, some of it over our knees, and are more than happy that there are no ticks here. We only stay for a very short time at the “summit” where we actually wanted to have a snack. Because the clouds are gathering around us and we start our descent as quickly as possible. The rest of the hike is just straight ahead and downhill. At some point there will be a road that we have to follow for a while. We are so engrossed in chatting that we automatically turn right at the intersection from the path to the street. After almost 2 kilometers, we have our snack and realize that we have been walking in the wrong direction. We weigh up the options and since no one feels like walking back up the road, we just keep going. So our hike ended up being a little shorter than planned. After Maren almost sacrificed me in a cow attack, we still make it into town and treat ourselves to an iced latte and a muffin. The break in the café ends up being longer than it should because we absolutely don't feel like walking up the endless stairs to the campsite anymore. But we managed to do that and reward ourselves with a good German dish. By the way, my favorite food.
