Had a pig... II

Publié: 21.02.2024

The destination for today is Coromandel. According to the travel guide, it's a nice, cozy hippie town that Maren is looking forward to her whole vacation. When we got there we were super disappointed because to us it seemed just like every other town we've driven through in the last few weeks. There is no trace of the hippie flair. We are quite torn and find it difficult to decide how we alternatively want to spend the day. Well, we're driving from stop to stop and still don't know where we want to spend the night. First we stop at an incredibly beautiful beach, the road alone inspires us with beautiful views. We then drive a few kilometers back inland to an extremely strange guy and his pigs. From the street we can already see the first mother pig with two babies. We find a way through all the pig poop and look around this lost place. Then the owner comes out of the bushes somewhere and we start talking. He invites us to show his farm and we follow him with blind trust. Since we walk really far into his property, we start to have concerns. He can easily make our bus disappear and feed us to the pigs. Well luckily it turns out that this guy isn't a serial killer. So we follow him and he shows us his pigs. He has a lot of pigs, in all age groups and there must be around 100 animals. He says a lot about the races and everything else. My motto: "Nod and smile." and say “oh woooow” every now and then. We both get a baby pig in our arms, although mine squeaks a lot more than Maren's. After more than half an hour, we manage to say thank you and say goodbye without seeming rude. He takes us all the way back to our car. Next we drive to a waterfall and then for a short walk to some kauri trees. One last look at the lush green hills and we continue along the coastal road to Thames. Since it's already quite late, we have the cold leftovers from yesterday for dinner, we drink a bottle of wine and play a round or two of cards.
