Island Krk and the drive to Bosnia

Publié: 08.06.2022

Today a two-day summary.

And I wasn't even aware of how close we were to Croatia already.

After breakfast at our guesthouse, we initially headed towards Italy. It was a navigation mistake on my part. We only briefly touched Italy and then turned towards Croatia.

With endless sunshine and 32 degrees Celsius, driving in the city traffic of Rijeka was a lot of fun.

We ended up on the highway. But it's also difficult to find a good alternative route to the Island Krk. In Krk, our destination was the town of Vrbnik. I know it from a previous vacation. Not much has changed. Except our old guesthouse apparently no longer exists.

In Vrbnik, we visited the old town and spent the rest of the afternoon in a beach bar.

Today we left relatively early in the morning. Our paths separated again. Olaf continued to Crest. I headed east, towards Bosnia. After some supposed "shortcuts" that all led through partially very bad gravel roads, I relied on my navigation system again. It led me through the mountains towards Bosnia, in the rain and only 12-15 degrees Celsius.

I usually like to ride with an open helmet visor, my eyes are well protected from flying insects by my glasses. But only my eyes, a bee thought it had to fly against my right eyebrow, it stung immediately and probably hit an important nerve node with its venomous sting, my entire right side of the face hurt like hell, including my teeth, wearing a helmet was no longer possible. After taking an ibuprofen and a long break, I could continue, from now on with a closed visor.

And suddenly the Balkan war, or better, the Balkan wars, were very close again. Ruins appeared along the roadside, many houses still had bullet holes. The climax, which really gave me goosebumps, was a route through a forest area. There were signs everywhere warning of mines. It's better not to leave the road here.

Arriving in Bihač, I checked into a hotel room. With a price of €16 for an overnight stay, it's not worth considering camping.

Tomorrow we will continue towards Mostar.
