Tuxtla & Sumidero Canyon

Publié: 06.02.2020

Wed, 5.2 - Thu, 6.2

After a late breakfast and a little rest after the long bus journey, I visited the zoo in Tuxtla. There were a lot of birds, snakes, spiders, crocodiles, monkeys, jaguars, and much more. Afterwards, I also went to the Christo de Chiapas statue, which is even taller than the one in Rio de Janeiro.

The next day, I took a bus to Chiapa de Corzo and took a two-hour boat tour through the Sumidero Canyon. We saw crocodiles, monkeys, two caves, and the 'Christmas Tree' (árbol de navidad) rock formation. At its highest point, the canyon is 1 km high and 140 m deep. After the tour, I took a walk in the village of Chiapa de Corzo, tried the widely spread drink Pozol de Cacao (cold cocoa), and took a bus back to Tuxtla. I picked up my big backpack from the hostel and continued on to San Cristobal de las Casas - the cultural center of Chiapas.
