Korbach

We have arranged a multi-day bike tour in Korbach on Sunday afternoon. We refer to our companion as G.; she wishes to remain anonymous (the name is known to the editor).

We meet G. in the pedestrian zone; it is quite quiet in the town, and after a brief refreshment with coffee and cake, we explore the truly important sights of the town:

  • The Korbach Split,
  • The Wolfgang Bonhage Museum
  • And our hotel.

After a round in the terrain around the Korbach Split, we head to the Hotel Am Dalwigker Tor and check in.

We visit the Wolfgang Bonhage Museum (which is worth a recommendation) and learn about the city’s history, economy, and life in the region. We were impressed by the breadth of exhibition topics and the variety of exhibits.

If the experts are stumped, it is made public:

Before dinner, we had a round of pool billiards in the hotel’s common room. The hit rate improved minute by minute. However, we managed to sink the black ball prematurely every time.

The hotel is not only recommended for its pool billiards. The bikes can be safely parked in a garage, and there is also a charging option for e-bikes.

From Korbach via Usseln to Adorf

After a very delicious breakfast, we set out towards Usseln. We want to ride downstream on the Diemel bike path all the way to the Weser. At the start, there are ups and downs, and by lunchtime, we have completed a few hundred meters of elevation. From Usseln, it predominantly goes downhill, but our accommodation Gasthof Zur Linde in Adorf lies behind several longer ascents and descents. At about 15 °C, we don’t get cold in the hilly terrain...

For the overnight stay, we leave the Diemel bike path and head east to Adorf. We booked rooms at the Gasthof Zur Linde because the hotels at Diemelsee would have been too expensive for us. The 150 years of inn tradition are tangible in the building. In the staircase, in the rooms, the furniture, and the dining area. Somehow, the time jump into the present seemed to be missed. Unfortunately, all other establishments in the town are closed on Mondays, so we are left with the Linde and its music box titles from the 1980s. But: the beers are freshly tapped, and the good wine selection comes from the Pfalz region from the Edenkoben wine shop. What we didn’t foresee at that time: exactly opposite the Edenkoben wine shop, our little Mazda would be crashed at the roadside two weeks later (unfortunately, a hit-and-run).

Sadly, we couldn’t operate the table soccer due to a lack of suitable currency. ;)

For breakfast, there were counted rolls (the desired selection was queried the night before). The cream cheese had a nice spot right under the lighting of the refrigerated display case; warm dishes are supposed to be easier to digest... It was enough to fill us up.

After a 'Good Morning' greeting to the cows, we head over the hills back to the Diemel bike path.

Hello!

At the dam wall, we switch river sides and follow the 5-star bike path (ADFC); the paths are partly paved, partly graveled.

At Marsberg, the Bionics Trail was established along a section of the Diemel. There, at several stations, principles of nature are made tangible at technical objects. The ideas are good, but in our view, there is (repair) potential in some areas.

The modern rooms at Hotel ten Hoopen were available for just 10 euros more than in the Linde. Great attentive service at the restaurant Deele, which is part of the hotel. They served among other things these very delicious items:

  • Beetroot carpaccio
  • Aioli with baguette
  • Salmon fillet with spinach
  • Salad with chicken breast
  • Veal schnitzel

The hotel and restaurant are definitely worth a visit.

From Germete to Bad Karlshafen

For breakfast, there were unlimited baked goods and a large selection at the breakfast buffet.

After that, we continued towards Bad Karlshafen.

Behind Trendelburg, the tunnel of the former Carlsbahn has been developed as a bike route. On the south side of the tunnel, one must go uphill a short distance; Maria received help pushing from G.

The bike path was closed just before Wülmersen due to a bridge damage from flooding, so we had to take a small detour. The water castle Wülmersen has since been renovated, and the offerings at Cafe Mehlschwalbe come highly recommended: definitely take a break there.

The anonymity of G. was also ensured at the Hotel Zum Weserdampfschiff. The assignment of guests to rooms could only be deciphered by the hotel staff.

From Bad Karlshafen to Adelebsen

On the last day of our trip, we rode first upstream along the Weser and then along the Schwülme to Adelebsen to the train station. Great tour!
