We are in a beautiful hotel on the Rio Dulce. The Rio Dulce connects the Lago de Izabal (much larger than Lake Atitlan) with Lake El Golfete and then flows into the Caribbean Sea. At the entrance to the sea is Livingston, a very colorful city that according to the travel guide should be visited. We do not share this view. But you can eat great fish dishes here. On the way to Livingston, you pass large villas with even larger boats: wealthy Americans live here. After about 1 hour by motorboat, passing by mangroves, you can visit a stalactite cave and go swimming. We skipped the swimming - the breeze was a bit chilly, but we visited the cave - this time only equipped with a flashlight, as there was no lighting. Afterward, you drive (at least today) quite lonely on the river and can see many birds before arriving in Livingston. Tomorrow we will continue to Tikal, which we are also very excited about.
