Santa Catarina - Gavia Pass - Tonale - Trento

The highlight of the day was already reached after 13 km, with constantly changing gradients from 3% to 14%. On the Gavia Pass, I (Beat) reached my 29th K58 pass and thus halfway through all the passes. 35 years ago at the Gavia, Urs Zimmermann from Bucheggberg lost the Giro in a snowstorm. We had good weather at around 15 degrees. The descent, along with the Balmberg north side, was the most criminal thing I have ever experienced, with narrow, poor roads and an unlit tunnel.

After the descent, we continued to the Tonale. There we had an average speed of 14 km/h. After 70 km descent and 20 km flat, we had an average of 24 km/h after 135 km. In Trento we were greeted with sunshine and hot 34 degrees.
