39 From Fyn to Langeland - Hilly Fun

Publié: 12.08.2020

Waking up and having fresh air on your nose is priceless!

I was super happy to have 'dared' to sleep in the shelter - and needed a moment to wake up from my beauty sleep :D

Then I continued on the hilly island of Fyn and felt the previous day's stage in my legs.. Besides, it was quite cloudy and a bit windy again, so I was already trying to get used to the idea that this is what the Danish summer looks like and I have to get used to it :D

As the next place, I passed Faaborg and took a small stroll through the picturesque old town.

For the evening, after 3 nights of wild camping, I wanted to stay with someone from Warmshowers again, because even though I enjoyed sleeping outside, I wanted to meet some locals and hear exciting things about the country and its people firsthand. Additionally, another problem began to arise: shortage of power.

And that was stressing me out, because I still didn't have a plan for the next few days, but I didn't want to waste battery power on long researches and end up not being able to navigate anymore.. And the beloved blog was falling behind again...

So, I had written to someone in the last major town on Fyn, which I would pass through, Svendborg, but unfortunately, I still hadn't received a reply by the time I got there. However, I found the great little café 'Little Local' with all kinds of regional organic products and super nice employees.

To solve my power problem, I considered going to the library, but Google told me: temporarily closed. At the same time, however, the library in Rudkøbing on Langeland was shown as open. Since I still hadn't received a reply from Warmshowers and I was slowly getting really nervous about how I would continue without a smartphone, I decided to cycle directly to Langeland, despite already having decent kilometers in my legs - especially since there seemed to be some nice shelters there.

When I arrived, the library was actually open and I used the remaining 45 minutes of opening time to charge my smartphone and power bank at least a bit and reserve a promising shelter in the south of the island. Google claimed: another good hour to get there, but 'mostly flat' - okay, I can do that today!

So, after a already full day on the bike, I set off at 6 p.m. for another 25 km stage - which turned out to be not flat at all and constantly led along a country road frequented by sometimes more, sometimes less considerate cars. Not so fun, but somehow I made it anyway.

It was probably unnecessary to book the shelter in the middle of the forest, since no one else was there. But when I took a short evening walk after cooking to catch a first glimpse of the cliffs in the gigantic evening light, I was quite satisfied with the decision to cycle a bit further. Needless to say, I fell asleep immediately after getting in my sleeping bag :D

The next day, after the little odyssey of the previous day, I wanted to give my legs a rest and decided to just explore the island a bit and then spend another night on the island in Spodsbjerg, so that I could start directly for Lolland the next day. I think the pictures speak for themselves ;)

For the evening, I had decided to treat myself to a night at the campsite, because my power problem remained and after all the nights in the shelters, a shower might also be appropriate :D Moreover, it was finally really summery in Denmark, so even with fewer kilometers per day than usual on the hilly island, I still broke a sweat.

And as if the people at the campsite knew exactly what I needed the most, there was a cable reel with plenty of free outlets right next to my tent spot ;)

A picnic at the harbor and a magnificent evening sky rounded off my short but beautiful time on Langeland :)
