San Jose, or SJO for short, also embodies the pride of the Ticos (Costa Ricans). Proud of history, of their own success, and of diversity. The guided tour of the National Theater is full of it. Like the coffee boom, which brought wealth to a few, but this wealth now has high symbolic meaning for everyone. Not only is this theater still played in, but the president is also sworn in here every 4 years. For this, the theater floor is cranked up with a 124-year-old mechanism powered by 12 times the muscle power. This raising has great symbolic meaning, which I can only describe very rudimentarily here. The whole building is full of symbols of the Freemasons, Dan Brown would have a lot of fun with it.
What am I grateful for today? For a small insight into national pride and the motivation of the Ticos, thank you.
It's pretty windy outside. Nap time for now. I'll pick up the car tomorrow. The road trip begins.
