We are currently on the beautiful island of Utila. We took the ferry from La Ceiba to get here. Strangely, it only runs twice a day, at 6:30 am and 4:00 pm. Great times. We took the 4 o'clock ferry and the waves were a bit stronger. So strong that I eventually found a quiet spot and had a little vomit. I just love boat rides... And it's nice that the trip only took 45 minutes. That brought me joy :)
But the crew really took care of me. Always bringing ice cubes to cool down, towels, and a new barf bag. Thanks for that.
Fortunately, I felt a bit better when we arrived. The first impression of the island was really great, it's even better than Caye Caulker. There's just more going on here. More restaurants, more bars, and a lot more people. If you're a passionate diver, this is definitely the place to be. There's a dive center on every corner. But we'll go for the soft option again: snorkeling :)
Our hostel, 'The Venue', is really cool too. It's just a tiny house and each room has 3 bunk beds. Nothing more :D I have no idea how I managed to sleep peacefully in that bed, because in the morning I noticed how many slats were missing from my 'mattress support'. And at first, I thought the mattress was just extremely worn out. I wonder when I'll fall through :) And I didn't have a pillow on the first night... sob.
Behind our hostel is the Upper Lagoon and right in front of it is the beach. It couldn't be better for us.
Unfortunately, there aren't many people in the hostel, but we're making the best of it. Of course, we definitely want to go kayaking. Let's see if it goes better this time than in Caye Caulker. But I'm optimistic, we're experienced now ;D
Of course, we treated ourselves to a bike again. We all got a pretty pink one with a basket, ooh. It's really the easiest and most comfortable way to explore an island. Sometimes we couldn't go any further, but that's okay. The bike seats were unfortunately more uncomfortable than expected. I have sore muscles in places I never thought you could even get sore muscles :D
One of the recommended bars here was Treetanic, which was really great, but somehow nobody was inside. I don't understand it at all, because the bar was really cool, like a little museum. Everywhere you looked, there was something different to discover, but see for yourself ;)
We're definitely having a great time here and I'm curious to see how many days we'll end up staying...
