Noteworthy

In our search for warmer temperatures, we found what we were looking for in Palm Springs (we could thankfully store our jackets and long pants deep in our suitcases again).

On the way from the Grand Canyon to Palm Springs, we made a detour to the western village of Oatman. Gold used to be mined here, but today the remaining 128 residents prefer to mine the tourists. It's original that the village is mainly populated by donkeys, which also block the 'main street' and live up to their reputed characteristics.

We are thrilled with our hotel, 'The Monkey Tree', in Palm Springs. Cool pool, beautiful apartment with a cozy terrace. What more could you want? We even had a super grill at our disposal. We finally got to cook for ourselves again and grill juicy steaks and delicious skewers.

Our hotel apparently has also hosted some famous personalities: JFK and Marilyn Monroe are said to have stayed here (this apartment has no number and is called 'Presidential Suite').

In downtown Palm Springs on Palm Canyon Drive, you can also find good Italian and Mexican restaurants with nice outdoor terraces, which we enjoyed.

The rotating Aerial Tramway to Mt. San Jacinto State Park took us back up to 2,600 meters above sea level. It's quite chilly up there, but the view is fantastic. This cable car is the largest of the three existing rotating cable cars. And who invented it....? We Swiss (from Von Roll and Doppelmayr from Thun)! A little bit of patriotism is always nice....

Tomorrow, on Tuesday, we will head to San Diego.
