Unusual program

Publicado: 25.09.2018

Today we took a look around the Garden District around noon. There are many beautiful houses on Washington Street. One more colorful and larger than the other.

Afterwards, we chose a somewhat unusual item for the agenda. A visit to Lafayette Cemetery No. 1.

According to our research, a must-see during a visit to New Orleans. And apparently also in some movies and the inspiration for the book 'Interview with the Vampire'.

Here you can still feel the old and historic New Orleans. And that's exactly how it is!

Visiting a cemetery may seem macabre, but with the necessary respect (which unfortunately not all visitors had), it is very impressive.

Huge family tombs are lined up next to each other. The tombs adorned with ornaments. Sometimes we saw up to 20 names on one tomb.

Many of these headstones date back to the 19th century. Some have been replaced with newer ones.

One thing that surprised us, about half of the names were German. Some even with German inscriptions.

Definitely worth a visit for us.

Yesterday we told you about Bourbon Street. Here we wanted to take another look.

And indeed. Today (on a weekday) the street was completely different for us.

Almost no drunks, enough space not to be bumped into, and much fewer people trying to chat you up.

Nevertheless, the music from the local establishments resounded towards us. We spontaneously chose a bar where we could listen to live music.

A group was on stage playing a mix of country and rock.

Keyboard, drums, guitar, even with violin and accordion. And an instrument that I don't think we know here. A ridged metal sheet strapped around the belly and sliding up and down with two metal tips. We really liked it.

Afterwards, we went to a restaurant called 801Royal.

Super good burgers and really delicious sandwiches. In addition, a wide selection of local beers and very friendly and attentive service.

All in all, it was a successful day.
