Cloudberry and the right to access

Published: 13.07.2024

And then, despite wearing a sleep mask, the midnight sun appeared exactly at midnight behind the mountains with a spectacular display of colors. Just goosebumps. After a few hours of sleep, coffee, and jam, we headed to Henningsvær, a beautiful fishing village with many colorful houses, small shops, and cafes. We tried a 'Fiskekaker', the Norwegian version of a meatball. A cinnamon bun was also a must, although the competition from the vanilla pudding bun was strong. The journey continued along the busy E10 road to Svolvær through a thankfully short tunnel. The tour is quite hilly. As a reward, we had Daim ice cream and Norwegian strawberries...yum.... We left the E10 and continued along the rather lonely road to Laukvik in the north. It got colder and fatigue started to set in. At the lighthouse, we even had our goat cheese from the farm, which looked better than it tasted. But hey, everything tastes good in the fresh air. Finding a place to sleep was a bit challenging, with nature reserves or peaty ground. In Norway, the right to access allows for sleeping outdoors. Everyone can set up their tent or park their camper anywhere. It's really a luxury - just to sleep where nature is most beautiful, lonely, wild, or by the sea. This is a true treasure of the country, just like cloudberry. They only grow in the north and everyone is allowed to pick them. They taste similar to cranberries. We sleep by a fjord surrounded by cloudberry and seagulls, which seem to argue all night long. The cloudberries go into the porridge and the seagulls...well, not into the pan. Oh, for the statisticians: 81 kilometers and 880 meters of elevation gain, temperature: 12 degrees.
