Lazy Day - unfortunately not valid for mosquitoes

Published: 22.07.2024

Today we want to really enjoy the hotel's amenities again. After yesterday's long tour, we're treating ourselves to a quiet day. Breakfast buffet, hot shower, laundry and making full use of the 12 noon check-out time - that's exactly what we want to do in the hotel in the morning. We want to charge all of our cell phones and lights, the Garmin and power banks, because the next 200 kilometers will be lonely and without power. Anja is in the shower and the cell phones are plugged in, suddenly it's pitch black in the bathroom and nothing works anymore - power outage. Great, the perfect moment. After half an hour and a hectic rush on the floor, luckily everything is fine again. We don't even need to mention that the weather is wonderful again, 26!! degrees and sunshine. We've also stocked up on supplies, oiled the chains, bought cinnamon rolls and coffee. Off we go, we leave Alta (we don't find the city particularly nice today either). After half an hour's drive on the E6, we see a great place to swim in the sea. Our lazy day continues. It's simply wonderful here. The landscape changes, we ride through pine forests and there are many lakes. The road keeps climbing steeply. A warm wind blows and we feel the ease of cycling. We stop at a lake and eat our dinner. Time is not important, the sun is shining and it is light 24 hours a day. Riding after 6 p.m. is also more relaxed, there is less traffic. After 35 kilometers/600 meters of altitude we find a great, secluded spot on a high plateau in the middle of the hills in a vast tundra landscape. We actually wanted to enjoy the magnificent expanse and the midnight sun, but the mosquitoes and horseflies think otherwise. Even our MYGGA wonder weapon doesn't help much, some battle-hardened, intrepid mosquitoes give it their all and continue to plague us. Nothing helps, we and Mrs. Freia Mandel-Krokant retreat to the tent. It was a relaxing day today despite the power outage and mosquito plague.
