Week 37 - Jake the Hunter
Jake's Visit to the Van

Published: 25.01.2026

Our last week house-sitting was still cozy. This was partly because we felt very comfortable here and wanted to enjoy the benefits once more. On the other hand, it was also due to the unfortunately quite bad weather throughout the week.
On Monday, we took advantage of a nice day to go for a longer hike and visit Michelle at her housesit.
We were able to experience a special event right from our terrace. A solar storm was expected with a very high probability for the Aurora Australis. After sunset, we kept looking at the night sky to see if we would finally witness this spectacle.
And indeed, at some point, the southern lights appeared in the sky. Unfortunately, it was only relatively weakly visible to us and the clouds didn’t help, but still, we saw our first southern lights in New Zealand.
Otherwise, we spent our days at home or went into the city center for a coffee. We also treated ourselves to dinner at a small food court.
However, an absolute highlight of our time in New Zealand awaited us on Saturday.
We had bought tickets for Ed Sheeran's concert on his Loop Tour.
Unfortunately, the weather was not good for us and the other concertgoers on Saturday and decided to rain continuously.
Despite the rain, the artists, especially Ed Sheeran, didn’t let it ruin their performances.
We managed to get a really good standing spot and were very close to the second stage.
The concert was simply mega good, and the way Ed played his music and interacted with the audience will certainly stay in our memory for a long time.
Really a unique experience.
Today was then the time to say goodbye to our 4-week home and our Jake. This little cat has also found his place in our hearts.
We are now looking forward to being on the road again with our van and heading north, where hopefully better weather awaits us.
