Week 18 - West Coast of Sardinia

Published: 20.03.2022

The week started with blue skies and sunshine. Little did I know that I wouldn't see the sun for a few days ;-)

I stayed overnight in the Porto Conte National Park in a parking lot on the cliffs. Since the park is located on a headland, I could see the sea on both sides from the parking lot. I was hoping to be rewarded with a beautiful sunset and sunrise. Unfortunately, the weather gods had other plans and dense clouds rolled in just before sunset. So, I'm still waiting for a dreamy sunset in Sardinia.

I also had no luck with the Neptune's Grotto. The cave was closed for electrical work. So, I couldn't conquer the 1,300 steps and I'm still waiting for my visit.

At a beachfront parking lot, I met Andreas and Maja from Ingolstadt. They started their 6-month journey in Sardinia two weeks ago. Their self-built camper is filled to the brim with equipment for their many sports hobbies (surfing, snorkeling, hiking, climbing...).

The next day, we drove together to Bosa to explore the town and the Cane Malu beach. The beach has a green color that the pictures don't do justice to. The lighting conditions haven't been the best this week...

After that, I took a coastal road to the Sinis Peninsula. My average speed is currently 50 km/h and decreased to 40 on the coastal road. You really can't drive faster on these roads. But with the views, it didn't matter at all, and I have plenty of time :-)

On the peninsula, there is a beach called the Rice Grain Beach. It is called that because the sand here is made of quartz and the pebbles look like grains of rice. The official name is Is Arutas.

This week, I also understand why Sardinia is called the 'Caribbean of Europe'. White beaches and a clear sea that shines brightly in the sunshine.

Besides beautiful beaches and cliffs, there was also a lot of wildlife. I saw a turtle, a wild boar, and flamingos :-)

Today, I visited Capo San Marco, and tomorrow, I will leave the Sinis Peninsula to continue my journey.
