After Ushuaia we went straight to Puerto Natales 16 hours later, arriving at 9 p.m.
Initially, we wanted to visit Torres del Paine National Park on the first proper day, but somehow our alarm clock didn't work well. Anyway, we woke up 2 hours later than planned and couldn't do much on that day, as there is only one bus to the park per day (off season).. So we went into town, bought some food, and booked our onward journey. However, because the hostel was more like a guesthouse (a shared apartment with an older couple), we were not allowed to use the kitchen - which we only found out after we had stocked up on pasta, etc. :D
Another disadvantage of the off season is that there is only one bus to the park (7:30 am) and one back, which departs from the park at 2:30 pm. In that time (max. 5 hours), we wouldn't have been able to complete the planned hike anyway. So, we finally decided to take a bus tour with Maria José, the only company that was operating, the next day for 35,000 CLP (50€) which took us to various places in the park.
We were taken to the Lake Amarga,
We took many photos because everything looked amazing! We even took a photo of the supposedly most photographed view in the park :D It was really beautiful!
The last stop of the excursion was the Cave of the Mylodon, which was supposedly a huge prehistoric sloth about 2 meters in size.. And apparently, it used to live in the cave. But apart from the size of the cave, there wasn't much to see, so it was rather unspectacular.
