Uslar and Fürstenhagen

A relaxed and quiet night in the holiday apartment was behind us, the first coffee as well, when we set out for Uslar. There at the Beckmann bakery, we got a delicious roll to go with our espresso and placed an order for butter cake for the following day. I took a raisin and a spelt bread right away; who knows if there will be any left tomorrow.

The center of Uslar was not far away, but streets closed due to construction made detouring by car sensible. There were plenty of parking spaces. Unfortunately, many shops that I remembered from previous visits were no longer there. A sad sight along the main shopping street. Neither a baker nor a butcher, no bookstore, no café were still present. There were indeed beautiful half-timbered houses to admire, but even there, vacancies were visible.

At least we discovered the head of the giant and the historic water mill (unfortunately enclosed in a glass case) as well as the old town hall. At some point, we would like to take a guided tour through Uslar.

We made our way to the country inn Zur Linde in Fürstenhagen. A small place that still belongs to Lower Saxony but is already in Hesse. A small stream runs through the village, a small church, two long-closed shops (Edeka and Spar) and here too, some very beautiful houses, and we were soon out of the village again. The field path led us uphill towards the forest. We did not go very far but turned back to the village past fields. In the village, bread from the Beckmann bakery was just being delivered. The sales van rang its bell, and the first customer arrived to buy a piece of cake and two loaves of bread. Our companion asked for a bread called Opa Karl, which was not available. The desired bread was named CALLI and was purchased.
