No castle, no palace

• then Hooksiel

With the high temperatures, it was better to visit a palace or a nice park, that was the plan. Luckily, I discovered the notice on the Gödens Palace website just in time that visits are not possible on weekends.

So, let's go to Kniphausen Castle, famous for its many chestnut trees. Even though it wasn't chestnut season yet, it was supposed to be a nice destination. Unfortunately, there was no legal parking space or we completely missed it. Again, no visit was possible for us – what a shame.

So, onwards to Hooksiel. The place has at least a small harbor, where a ship from Carolinensiel was also anchored. The berths at the Harle are currently unusable, as work is still ongoing at the Sieltor. The few boats on the Harle probably missed the last opportunity to leave the Harle.

In Hooksiel, there was hardly any shade in the parking lot. We started a little walk through the town, had good espresso and less good iced coffee. Then back to Carolinensiel, where the iced coffee was better.

The evening walk to the sea was also short; it was still very warm and no water in sight and no wind to be felt.

During the night, the most intense thunderstorm I have ever experienced raged. The flashes of lightning came in such rapid succession that it never went dark again. The rumbling was immediately followed by a loud bang, as if the sound barrier was broken. And then finally came the rain and cooled everything down a bit. The spectacle lasted for several hours, and not many people got much sleep here. I wonder how the sheep on the dikes were doing?
