Almond path

The weather was inviting with sunshine and mild temperatures. So two friends got into the car and off we went to see the blossoming almond trees in the Palatinate. To be more precise: to Edenkoben and Rhodt unter Rietburg - a hiking tip from the local newspaper.

We parked the car and then went to meet the many people who were following our tour in a different direction. We always walked along the vineyards and along the almond tree avenue towards Edenkoben. The tour was at least largely marked as ALMOND PATH 3, a circular route. Unfortunately, we didn't recognise one of the junctions as such and ended up walking a few more kilometres than we thought. The people were very helpful along the whole route and pointed us in the right direction when we asked.

So we arrived safely in Edesheim. The OIL MILL on the Modenbach is still there. Today it is used as an artistic forge and belongs to the ERLENMÜHLE winery. It was built in 1477 as a weapons forge. The way it is used today is much nicer.

Through the vineyards of various winemakers to Rhodt. A beautiful place that is worth visiting. However, with the beautiful and sunny weather there were a lot of people on the streets - there are no normal width sidewalks there. There was already a very long line in front of the ice cream parlor. Otherwise many cafés were already so full that four hikers had no chance of getting an espresso.

So we continued on Theresienstraße towards the parked car. This street has so many beautiful houses that we didn't even put our cameras and cell phones back in our bags - there were too many great subjects. And we actually found the opportunity to have a delicious espresso in the courtyard of the ALTER KASTANIENHOF (www.alter-kastanienhof.de).

With this refreshment, the walk to the parking lot was not so long and the trip across the Rhine was also quickly completed. It was a very nice trip. I didn't even need the hiking boots. The paths were easy to walk on and no incline forced us to exert ourselves physically.

See you soon
