Karlsruhe on Sunday

Published: 11.02.2024

We are on the road

Once again in Karlsruhe, today in Rüppur. With a friend who has been living in the adjacent Dammerstock for many years (67 with a break when she lived in the north with her husband).

We drove through the Südstadt, past the main train station, to Dammerstock. From there we continued on foot. The weather was again kind to us - no rain, just a little windier than expected.

We passed the Alb (which flows through many districts of Karlsruhe) past the Rüppur outdoor pool, then along the Reiherbach for a while towards Ettlingen. Seems to be a popular route for cyclists of all kinds. We passed a small garden association and then continued over the tracks of a busy railway line to the organic farm SCHLEINKOFER. Here there is a milk vending machine that is open daily until 8 p.m. Super - our tour guide had planned this and brought a bottle of milk. Eggs, yogurt, cheese, sausages, and jam as well as organic meat are available in the farm shop.

A stone's throw away is BECKER's farm shop. Also recommended. Here there are large vending machines filled with wine, cheese, yogurt, and various types of meat products (from meatloaf to different sausages to dumplings). In addition, there is the farm shop, which was closed on Sunday. There was plenty in the vending machines, so the farm shop wasn't necessarily needed.

Some horses were outside on the sand court; chickens could be seen in an outdoor enclosure. At least they were all outside.

And so that we could also see something of Rüppur, we went back over the Alb. Past beautiful old houses, the church and the old town hall, and an old mill to the spot where the Rüppur Castle stood until 1762. The old site plan can be seen on a sign. Then past the former dairy (the Red House, now a therapy and meeting center) and we were back in Dammerstock where our little excursion had started. One more espresso and something to snack on - then we made our way home.

See you soon
