Tuscany Tour 2026 - Day 12 and 14

These two days can be quickly summarized, and there are no photos to accompany them.

On the 12th day of our trip, we started in the morning from the parking spot in San Gimignano and aimed to head towards Montalcino.

Within Tuscany, we don’t take the highway but only regular roads. At some point halfway there, the camper started making strange noises, and we could only drive about 25 to 30 kilometers per hour; otherwise, it became unmanageable.

After we couldn’t find any issue ourselves, we called the ADAC. Luckily, we have the international protection certificate. On the phone, we explained the problem, and they promised to send help. After about 2 hours, we were informed that a tow truck would arrive in approximately another 2 hours. The tow truck did arrive after about 1.5 hours and took us to a garage in a small town.

Since it was already Saturday around 5:30 PM and it was the weekend in Italy, of course, no auto mechanic was available at the site.

Fortunately, we were able to spend the night in our camper in front of the garage, so we didn’t have to quickly find a room.

On Sunday afternoon, a car mechanic contacted us, saying he would come to look at the vehicle. After a long search, he found and fixed the issue. A few days before our departure, the camper had been in the local garage for inspection and received new control arms, new brake pads, and new brake linings on both front sides. One screw hadn’t been tightened properly and had become more loose during the drive.

At 5:30 PM, we received the relieving call from the mechanic that the camper was ready to drive again without major repairs.

All in all, it was a 'small cause - big problem.'

Since it was already so late, we looked for a parking spot nearby for the night.
