Southern Sweden Tour - Day 7

10:30 AM - we leave the parking spot under bright sunshine and pleasant 21° C and set off to Öland.

The navigation system leads us onto the Federal Highway 28 towards Österleden. At Trafikplats Karlskrona Ost, we take the E 22.

We leave the federal highway at Horsarydsvägen and take some small country roads. Behind Klakebäcksvägen, we get back on the E 22.

On the 137, we then cross the Ölandsbron onto the island. This island is long and thin like an eel. With 137 km in length and a maximum width of 16 km, it covers an area of about 1347 km².

We settle in Köpingsvik. Köpingsvik is a district of Borgholm on the Swedish island of Öland. In connection with the construction of the Öland Bridge, the rural roads on Öland were also expanded in the early 1970s, during which a prehistoric settlement was discovered in Köpingsvik that was four times larger than Birka and twice the size of Haithabu.

After we had parked our camper well, we rode to Borgholm on our scooter.

What immediately caught our eye was the church of Borgholm. It was built starting in 1842 and initially served as a school building.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, Borgholm has developed into a well-frequented seaside resort, mainly due to the nearby royal residence, Solliden Palace.
On the way, we also passed the ruins of Borgholm Castle as well as various post mills. We want to take a closer look at these tomorrow.
