South Sweden Tour - Day 27

This morning, we had actually planned to visit the Foteviken Museum.

This museum is an archaeological open-air museum that showcases what life in a town during the late Viking Age and early Middle Ages might have looked like. In addition to the exhibitions, there is a reconstructed Viking town with 23 buildings and a Viking ship that was reconstructed from an archaeological find in Foteviken.

However, a visit there was not meant to be for us. We had already been there on our way, but the museum was closed, and today Thor was not on our side.

Thor is one of the most important Germanic gods. On one hand, he is a radiant hero, but on the other hand, he is also the god of weather and storms. Therefore, he was particularly important to seafaring peoples like the Vikings.

Okay, we must admit that we are neither Vikings nor seafarers, but as 'sea' drivers of the road, one could certainly label us as such. And since we not only want to drive but also see something, Thor is important to us as well.

So we decided to bring our planned return trip forward by a day.

In the rain, we crossed the Øresund Bridge, but after a few kilometers in Denmark, it became dry and the sky cleared up a bit.

Our journey through Denmark went well, the weather cooperated relatively well, except for a bit of rain now and then.

First, we headed to Flensburg to spend a night at one of the parking places there. But it was pure chaos; the city was full, there were many construction sites, and 2 of the parking spots we tried were occupied.

So we had no choice but to leave the city, and then we found a parking spot in the quaint Satrup (a district of the municipality of Mittelangeln in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg in Schleswig-Holstein).

People have obviously been in the area for thousands of years. The Satrupholmer Moor, located east of the town, has numerous archaeological sites from prehistoric times.
