Bad Hönningen and Koblenz

Our first tour took us to Bad Hönningen on the Rhine in October 2023. There we had a beautiful spot right in the front row at https://mobil.wellness-rheinpark-camping.de/.

Bad Hönningen is a small place, but very quiet.

Of course, we also visited the spa and spent a little wellness day there.

One day we took the train to Koblenz. The train station in Bad Hönningen is very easily accessible on foot from the campsite.

Koblenz offers a rich history and many impressive sights.

The German Corner is probably one of the most famous landmarks in Koblenz and its surroundings. This famous promontory marks the confluence of the Moselle and the Rhine. Here is also the equestrian statue of Emperor Wilhelm I, which with the rivers in the background is a popular photo motif. The German Corner is not just a beautiful sight; it also has significant symbolic meaning for German unity: During the time of Germany's division, the destroyed monument became a symbol of the desire for reunification. After reunification, it then became a symbol of the newly gained unity of Germany.

An amazing view over the Rhine Valley is offered by the impressive Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which due to its imposing architecture has become a significant landmark of the city. The second largest preserved fortress in Europe lies opposite the German Corner, on the other side of the Rhine, and offers a spectacular view of the rivers and the landscape from the wooden observation platform.

Amidst all the historical and cultural sights, sometimes a little relaxation is also needed. The wonderful 3.5 kilometers long Rhine promenades invite strolls and relaxation, with spacious green areas where one can take a break from all the impressions.
