A piece of the Caribbean at your doorstep

Who doesn't dream of a vacation in the Caribbean? Endless white beaches, crystal clear water, radiant blue skies... For most of us, this dream will always seem distant. Yet, it is not so far away: About three kilometers from our campsite towards Vada stretches White Beach, the white beach renowned for its fine, snow-white sand, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe and offers a touch of Caribbean feeling.

When we arrived there around 10:30 AM, we were almost alone and enjoyed the stunning view of the turquoise water and waves under the glorious sunshine. While sipping a cappuccino on the terrace of the beach bar, we witnessed how the beach gradually filled with life. The first vendors set up their colorful stalls with scarves, sun-seekers spread out on their vibrant towels, and a group of sun-tanned women paused for a small break with their horses right in front of us.

The sun made the thermometer rise, while a gentle breeze from the sea kept it from getting too warm. It was beautiful. “I could stay here,” Angelika summed up what we all felt.

Where does this piece of the Caribbean along the Mediterranean coast come from? Online, it is said that the sand owes its color to a soda factory that had been discharging its wastewater here into the sea for years. However, in recent years, this stretch of beach has been repeatedly awarded the environmental symbol of the “Blue Flag” by Italian authorities for its water and beach quality.

No matter what: we enjoyed the hours at this wonderful piece of nature – and suddenly the Caribbean didn’t seem so far away anymore...
