Off to Thailand

Published: 31.12.2024

We had imagined the border crossing to Thailand to be quite simple.... no visa lines, just a stamp in the passport - done. But unfortunately, no. The signage was confusing, and a very insistent gentleman kept pointing to a specific counter. So we lined up there.... and.... waited.... When it was our turn, we were handed a slip of paper, and the lady pointed to the counter across. Hmm, it's a form for importing a vehicle, with model, engine, and so on. We wrote down 'Bicycle' for the vehicle type. And off we went to the next line. After a long wait, it was finally our turn. The woman simply said: No-go D4. (Whatever that is supposed to mean) while pointing at a car key.... We have been messing around here for almost 50 minutes now. We decide to follow what seems logical. To the foot tourists or bus tourists. We leave the bicycles standing outside. And lo and behold: 15 minutes later, we had the stamp in our passport and were back on the bikes! In Laos, we had gotten our bikes really dirty in the construction sites and fog at the border. After a few kilometers, we found a self-service wash for mopeds and first cleaned the bikes🤩. In the evening, there was a very nice hotel and Pad Thai.
