On the hunt for treasures from the past

Published: 18.08.2024

Today’s agenda included a trip to the Jurassic Coast. After we had picked everyone up, we naturally exchanged stories about how the host families are and what food we had. There was plenty to share, and as it often is with teenagers, you can't please everyone 😉. The same procedure as in Germany.

Back to the topic: Sara and Toni accompanied us on the trip and took care of the organization. Upon arrival at the parking lot, the plan was discussed up until the hike. Due to the existing dangers at a cliff coast, which is not different in Germany, there was a briefing in English, and then we repeated it in German. For parents’ reassurance beforehand, before checking the final statuses of the children: WE BROUGHT EVERYONE BACK TO POOLE IN ONE PIECE - so the parents' panic mode can now be deactivated again 😉.

Upon arriving in Lulworth, everyone had about 70 minutes of free time to enjoy an ice cream, get traditional Fish & Chips, and go to the small cove to unwind for a moment. The view into the cove was lovely, and the small town was very idyllic. Many houses in Lulworth have thatched roofs. As Toni told us, all new houses must be built with a thatched roof - or at least they are required to - to preserve the tradition and historical appearance of the village. Some visitors took the opportunity to refresh themselves, buy souvenirs, or simply visit the restroom one more time to be ready for the upcoming ascent to the cliff coast. The reactions that the word 'hike' can trigger in a teenage brain and how the pubescent body responds can be quite strange sometimes. The speed of reaction from input to output and the intensity were - as always - individually calibrated. Just a little joke - it wasn’t that bad, but the reader of this blog should be amused a bit.
