The radius expands slowly.

Martin's first funeral is coming up, and I just took my first longer walk around the neighborhood. I took lots of photos of beautiful plants that are thriving in this weather. I also struck up a conversation with a man on the street who told me the names of some of the plants. It's hot and humid, and it rains heavily on and off throughout the afternoon and evening. Luckily, we usually have sunshine in the mornings. Yesterday, there was a lot of preparation for today's Oktoberfest, where 130 guests are expected. It's going to be a huge event; I'll tell you more about it next time.

Both the funeral ($500) and the Oktoberfest are important sources of income for the community, which largely has to finance the pastor itself.

Yesterday I baked my first loaf of bread using a recipe from a church council member. We're slowly settling into our daily routine. Next week we finally want to explore more of San José.
