Farewell to Costa Rica and to the community

This will now be my last blog entry before I head back to Germany in two days. It's time to go home – finally.

- the last visit with a church council member and swimming in her pool

- the last visit to our favorite café

- the farewell service this morning followed by coffee

- packing the suitcase

- saying goodbye to the temporary arrangements

- great anticipation for our home

Our time here has allowed us to appreciate more how safe, privileged, and luxurious our life in Germany really is. Nice weather cannot replace family and good friends. We have also learned and recognized that we no longer want to subject ourselves to such a long journey with many uncertainties. Our own limits of endurance have made this very clear. What we regret a lot is that we received little understanding from the church council and some community members, and the farewell was rather sober and lacking in warmth. However, we hope that in the long run, the beautiful moments and encounters will remain in our memory.
