In Paradise

Our first real break on the Pacific in Montezuma from December 15 to 19.

We traveled for seven hours - by car and ferry - before reaching our hotel 'Amor de Mar', a small hotel with eight rooms, each uniquely designed. I felt comfortable there right away, even though the temperatures were very tropical. We actually planned to stay from Monday to Thursday, but at my request, we could extend for one more night and only had to change rooms. We were both in need of some relaxation to truly enjoy it from the start. So the next day we didn’t go on an excursion and enjoyed the beautiful facility instead. In San José, the weather had been unpleasant with a lot of rain. The next morning, we were awakened early by the sun. The morning hours are the most beautiful since it already gets noticeably cooler by 4 PM and darkness sets in. The only thing we had planned for that day was a hike to the waterfall. However, we had to abandon that right away since Martin feels very unsteady due to his polyneuropathy when the terrain is uneven. This is also a relatively new experience for Martin, as not everything is possible anymore. It started raining heavily again in the afternoon and at night. It only cleared up again on Wednesday. We drove to a nearby national park and took a circular path of about two hours through the rainforest. Fortunately, Martin had a bamboo stick for support, but he was still very glad and relieved when we made it through safely. You could hear the howler monkeys from the parking lot. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see them. Instead, we were able to observe a whole troop of coatis searching for food. They were not bothered by us at all.

In the small town, we found a nice local place with good food and great service.

The tranquility in the hotel and at the beach did us very well, although there were also reckless motorcyclists racing through the town.

On Thursday, we finally saw a monkey that was playing around in front of our balcony. And iguanas in the hotel garden and on the street as we were on our way back. The return drive was relaxed until about 15 km from San José. For the last 8 km, it took us another half hour.

Overall, this trip was a complete success and was good for both body and soul.
