In the morning, we planned to explore the coast of the spit between the Mar Menor lagoon and the Mediterranean Sea. We walked along the beach to the Puente de la Risa, the Bridge of Laughter. This was designed and built in 1978 by an architect in the style of a Venetian city bridge. At that time, an attempt was made to create a sort of mini summer Venice here, which led to the design of not only the bridge but also the distinctive cloverleaf island, and the whole ensemble was named Veneziola. Little was known about the specific plans, but the mystery of the gigantic cloverleaf was now solved.
On our way through the birdwatching area, we were lucky to see a pair of flamingos again. However, we were also once again attacked by swarms of mosquitoes. In the morning, under the sun, we had not expected to be so aggressively attacked and had left the mosquito spray with Gary. We cut our walk short and made our way back home; after an hour, we were back with Gary.
Since neither of us wanted to deal with mosquitoes anymore, we continued on to Torrevieja. The drive took about an hour and a half, and the parking spot was located right in the city between the buildings.
After checking in, we immediately headed to the beach right next to the spot, sat in the sun, and Ines even went swimming. The beach was rocky and stony, so hardly anyone was visible in the water.
In the late afternoon, we started our journey back to Gary, and while Ines went to shower, Sebb once again swept the floor and then cooked pasta with tomato sauce.
In the past few days, we had discovered the crime podcast Kein Mucks! for ourselves, and while the TVs in the motorhomes around us turned on to broadcast the evening program in various languages, Bastian Pastewka accompanied us through the crime audioplays.
