We said goodbye to one of the campsites that had impressed us the most. On the drive through the fog, we were able to observe wild flamingos along the highway, in a vast river delta.
When we had to refuel for the first time in Portugal today, we realized how much cheaper diesel was in Spain.
After almost a three-hour drive, we reached our intended location in Nazaré. There, we also encountered the two acquaintances from yesterday with their dogs on leashes.
Once we had settled in, Sebb wanted to go straight to the 'Farol' at 'Forte São Miguel Arcanjo', the point where one can see the biggest wave in the world during winter. We walked along the beach promenade and took the funicular up to the cliffs. There, we first visited the church 'Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Nazaré', and then treated ourselves to a portion of Churritos. Passing the 'Escultura Veado Surfista', we continued to the viewpoint.
In the small building of the former fort, there was a museum dedicated to the extreme sports athletes who had come here on a record hunt. All had left their sporting equipment, their boards, here, including the reigning record holder, the German Sebastian Steudtner.
On the way back, we bought a piece of traditionally sun-dried fish at a stand on the beach. Unfortunately, the texture and taste did not convince us at all.
Back with Gary, we took a break and let the evening wind down comfortably.
