It was time for a big hike, and the destination was the Lontzkedune (Wydma Łącka).
The well-marked trail led us through the forest of the Słowiński National Park. The distance was just over seven kilometers from the campsite to the hiking dune. On the way back, we planned to walk along the beach.
After about two hours of hiking in the persistent drizzle, from which the forest offered minimal shelter, we emerged from the woods to face a massive sand dune right in front of us. It was impressive. The moving dune stretched not only to an unexpected height but also covered the entire width of the narrow strip of land between Lake Leba and the Baltic Sea, extending kilometers in length.
We climbed the crest of the dune with ease, as the damp sand supported us much better than dry sand would have. The view was beautiful and extensive, but it was windy, and of course, it drizzled again. We had hoped to find a small inn or at least a snack here, but that did not materialize. At the foot of the dune, there was only a ticket booth for the electric buses that took the weary back to the entrance of the national park.
We stuck to our decision and hiked back along the beach. This time it was another two hours of walking, but with a tailwind.
