Te Puia - Geysier Steam, Maori Culture and a Lively Kiwi

Published: 10.12.2016

After our first night in the car (it was surprisingly cozy), we went to Te Puia the next day. After Te Puia (unfortunately cost 48$), we mainly went to see the largest geyser in the entire southern hemisphere, whose name was Pōhutu. It was supposed to erupt only every half hour, but when we were there, it kept spewing hot water the whole time.

In Te Puia, you could also see a Maori village and a Maori welcome ceremony, along with the geyser and other hot springs and mud. It was all very strange.

In addition, there is also a kiwi bird in Te Puia that you can see. Fortunately, we also saw it and were slightly shocked to see that kiwis are about the size of a German hen.
