Christmas Days in Stellenbosch
Via Route 62, which is about 850 km long, the Cape Route is considered one of the most beautiful travel routes through South Africa.

The name is reminiscent of the famous Route 66 in the USA, and it passes through mountainous and predominantly rural areas.

Passing through Amalienstein, a mission station,

at Ronnies Sex Shop,

we head to Barydale and Montagu and then to Robertson, where we make a stop at a winery that supposedly has the best sparkling wine.

Unfortunately, we don't like the taste of any of it, so we continue to Paarl

to stock up on food and drinks for the coming days and drive to our next accommodation in Stellenbosch.
And what can one say, it is even more beautiful than expected. We receive a warm welcome, and the little house and the pool are absolutely charming.

Unfortunately, there is a strange smell in the house, and when we open a cupboard, a fish dish scent wafts towards us.
The landlords immediately take care of the problem, and we first get a bottle of wine and a cheese platter on the house.

Since the built-in cupboard needs to be removed, we are moved to another room for the first night. There is a hot tub that is heated for us... with a wood fire and we still have a nice evening. The next morning, the problem is resolved, and we can move into our little house. It turns out that wasps had settled on the outer wall, which were killed but then started to smell because they weren't removed.

We have breakfast on our terrace by the pool and then go to Hazendahl to play golf on an 18-hole golf course with only par 3 holes.

Since I tripped yesterday on my way from the hot tub to the room and fell on my hand, it's rather a painful affair.
We spend the afternoon by the pool.

No work on Christmas Eve is also not bad. In the evening, we have a table reserved for a Christmas dinner. With an Uber, it's about a 30-minute drive for 5 €, that’s fun.
The food and the wine are excellent, and the service is very nice.

When we get home, there is a gift from our landlord at the door…. Mince Pies… that's so nice.

We end the evening with wine by the pool.
We spend the first holiday lazily by the pool in the sun. As we run out of wine (the supermarkets are open today, but they are not allowed to sell alcohol), our landlord helps us out with a bottle.
In the evening, there is a barbecue by the pool. This is definitely a pleasant place to stay.
On the 2nd holiday, we have booked a picnic for lunch at the Spier Winery. There's a basket with snacks, wine in a cooler, blankets, and we choose a shady spot by the creek to picnic.

Beautifully dreamy once again.

Today it is really hot, so we spend the rest of the day by the pool and would like to stay here for a few more weeks.
