Franschhoek

Published: 30.12.2024

27.-29.12.24

Today, we unfortunately have to leave our dream accommodation and continue towards Franschhoek.

After a stop at the beautiful La Motte Winery,

we settle into our accommodation for the next two days. What can you say, after the pool villa over the holidays, this is a bit of a downgrade. A tiny little balcony and not such a warm welcome, but the room is quite nice. In the evening, we stroll up and down the main street of Franschhoek.

and dine at a highly rated burger joint. With wine and live music in one of the small squares, we unwind for the evening and mentally prepare ourselves for the booked Winetram tour for tomorrow.

After breakfast, we make our way to the Winetram Terminal. There, we receive stickers with the color of the route we booked. We have booked the orange route, and first, we take a bus to the Drakenstein Terminal. There, we transfer to the tram and visit the Boschendal Winery first.

There, a bus waits to take us to the winery.

There are 2 stops, the winery and the wine cellar. Since everyone gets off at the wine cellar, we do too. Unfortunately, there isn't much to see apart from drinking wine. So we start the morning with a drink in a beautiful garden.

Every hour, you can return to the tram and continue the tour.

Next, we head to Plaisir Wine Estate.

A small but very cute winery, where we also have an hour to enjoy. After Vrede en Lust and Bacco, we continue our journey.

At every little street, two men jump out with flags, even though there is no traffic at all.

And essentially, you can only drink and wait for the tram or the bus. The wineries are rather small and there isn't much to see. Including a headache.

Franschhoek is more reminiscent of Ballermann, at the final stop, there are plenty of drunk tourists, and the place itself is not really African but more like Disneyland.

For a day trip, it’s quite nice, but you don't need to stay here for longer.
