The whales were caught because huge amounts of fat were melted into oil.

The furnaces and melting tanks can be seen in the museum in São Roque.

We were only in the museum for a short time, on the one hand because the idea of how the animals were processed here was not pleasant. On the other hand, the weather was pretty good!
