Last week in El Rancho, there were floods due to the heavy rain. Since the rainy season has started and people here have experienced floods before, everyone was more or less prepared, and the water could be pumped out quickly. It was a bit unfortunate for the guest groups, as some activities could not take place because of this.
My work week was structured similarly to the last one: kitchen, housekeeping, and activities. This time, I was an instructor at the Rock Wall Climbing and had a lot of fun motivating the kids and, besides climbing, learning some dances from them, for example. :)
On the weekend, I went on a day road trip with four others. We left on Saturday, August 31st, in the morning and made stops on our way to Castlepoint at Wairarapa Lake and a town called Martinborough, which is known for its wine. We were really lucky with the weather because we literally drove away from the clouds. It was so cool to finally see more of New Zealand, to go on my first real road trip (even if it was just a day trip), and to breathe in fresh Pacific air. I had a great time with the people! I don’t really realize that I am in New Zealand. Daily life feels quite normal (in a positive sense), and I just take everything in that I can. Outings like this add something very special to it all.
By the way, today, September 1st, is officially the first day of spring in New Zealand.
