The time zone difference is still affecting us – we’re up early, but there are some advantages. While Marc was already at the gym before 8 AM, I was sitting with a coffee in the lobby, leisurely reading a book. This is how a travel day should ideally start.
Before we set off, we reserved two gravel bikes for the next day to explore the city on two wheels. Then we headed to the Ferry Building Farmers Market, where the scent of fresh baked goods, fruits, and spices immediately drew us in. The atmosphere there is vibrant, colorful – and in some way distinctly San Francisco.
From there, we took the historic F line streetcar, which comfortably brought us toward Chinatown. There we accidentally discovered the small restaurant Today Food – a real hidden gem! The dumplings there were heavenly, freshly prepared, and simply authentic.
After eating, we strolled further to Little Italy, where we enjoyed an espresso in a small café while observing the hustle and bustle on the street. Italian flair right in the middle of California – almost a bit surreal, yet beautiful.
Of course, we couldn’t miss a classic: a ride on the Cable Car! An absolute highlight. Not only was the ride itself impressive, our driver was visibly enjoying his job and kept the mood lively with his jokes.
In the afternoon, we also visited the famous Painted Ladies, the Victorian houses set against the skyline – a postcard motif that looks even more stunning in real life. After that, we headed back to the hotel for a short break.
To end the day, we let a friendly Uber driver take us to Twin Peaks. Once we reached the top, we were rewarded with a breathtaking view of San Francisco. The city was sparkling in the evening light, fog was settling over the hills, and the wind was blowing chilly around us – almost a mystical moment. Unfortunately, we weren’t quite dressed for the cool weather, so we quickly took a few photos and headed back to the warmth.
So many impressions, so many stories – San Francisco never ceases to amaze us. And tomorrow, the next adventure awaits.
