Cloudy and rainy, that's how Saturday presented itself. Bad weather. Accordingly, I took it easy. After all, my tourist flat was cozy. And while I prepared my breakfast, I had time to talk to James. James (40) comes from New York (State), so from the province, he is a trained linguist, video game, comic, sci-fi nerd and his son lives in Florida. James is a chatterbox, easy to get into conversation with, but hard to end. Also, he hardly let me get a word in, unbelievable.
A short walk around the block. Malcolm X blv., Jesse Owens School, Marcus Garvey str. - all proud figures of the Black community.
Another short conversation and it was already 3.30pm. Then I remembered that I had a ticket for the Guggenheim Museum. Panic moment, grabbing things, off to the elevated train and to Manhattan!
For free admission on Saturdays, I had to register in advance and there was a time slot from 4 to 6pm available, completely sufficient.
The Guggenheim is essentially a Kandinsky gallery with some Gauguins, Picassos, and room for contemporary art. So far, so unspectacular. But the real attraction is the building itself, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, one of the most important American architects.
The list of my to-dos in NYC is noticeably getting shorter.
