Tag 2: A little bit of sea

Published: 02.09.2017

The day started with the search for breakfast. Interestingly, there are more goldsmiths than bakeries in Odense, but eventually we found one. We had chocolate croissants at Brød - very hipster-like on a wooden board.

The footprints on the ground then led us to the Hans Christian Andersen Museum. Here, we were guided through the life (including a walk through his birthplace) and work of the Danish writer in different stages, and it quickly became clear that the well-known fairy tales only make up a small part of his work. This includes many other stories and poems, as well as silhouettes. In addition, the emperor's new clothes were exhibited and we could see how difficult the princess on the pea had it.

Conclusion: A brilliant, extraordinary person who did not have an easy life, but became immortal primarily through his fairy tales.

Back at the accommodation, we packed our backpacks and took the IC train towards Copenhagen after a small snack at the train station. The route initially connects the Danish islands above and later below the sea, with the first part being quite a scenic section.

After about 1:30 h of travel and a short bus trip (first you have to find the station...), we arrived at our accommodation for the next two nights in the Frederiksberg district.

The apartment is small but cozy, and the hosts are very nice again. Only the apartment door is a pain in the ass, but you can't have it all. 😆

After a short break, we then set off on foot to Frederiksberg Park. It is one of the largest green spaces in Copenhagen, beautifully designed with many trees, small lakes, and streams. At one side, the Frederiksberg Palace is located, which was commissioned by King Frederik IV at the end of the 17th/beginning of the 18th century. The park seems to be a meeting point for both the local youth and joggers, ducks, geese, squirrels, and cranes. The latter apparently even have their own crane whisperer and generally feel pretty cool.

Now that our stomachs are filled with noodles from the Thai restaurant (highly recommended by the hosts!), we quickly work out the program for tomorrow with the insider tips from our friends in Odense. How to best experience a capital in two days?

We're both a little tired, but so far really satisfied. Let's keep going like this!
