AAPPI and Kipawa

On Tuesday morning, we visited AAPPI.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, we had the opportunity to learn about the Kipawa project. Kipawa means talent, ability, or power in Swahili. Violine and Lena introduced us to the concept, which primarily offers 4-month German courses along with some other programs. The special aspect is that the courses are accessible and free for all refugees, but participants must volunteer/work unpaid in cooperating companies and businesses. This way, everyone benefits because the companies get helpers, and the participants can make contact with potential employers. Since many people who come to Kipawa do not have a residence permit and therefore no general work authorization, this can ideally provide a 'detour' to a residency perspective through improved language skills and a work contract. Or at least a good time, during which participants are not condemned to idleness, can form friendships, and find support.
