Day 2: Jerusalem

Day two begins and we have already become so accustomed to the city as if we have been here for years. We start a little earlier because we want to go to Jerusalem and not start in the midday heat. This time, we walk to the train station and it only takes us 37 minutes by train to get to Jerusalem, and we take the tram from the train station to the Old City.

Through the Marcopolo app, we have downloaded a walking tour that passes by the city's most famous landmarks. On the way to our starting point, the Jaffa Gate, Jerusalem shows how different it is from Tel Aviv. The streets are very clean and almost empty, the houses are built almost uniformly, but each one is a little artwork in itself. We are a little bit in love.

Since you can't start a walking tour without a second breakfast (we already had the first one at the train station), we all have falafel first. Afterwards, we start our tour, which takes us through Yoel Moshe Solomon Street with its colorful umbrellas and Via Dolorosa (the path of Jesus' suffering) to the Jaffa Gate. From the Citadel of David, we walk through the Armenian Quarter to Mount Zion, to the Tomb of David and to the Upper Room of the Last Supper.

At the Dormition Church, we encounter a celebration where a Bar Mitzvah is being joyfully celebrated.

Our journey ends at the Western Wall. The sun is now scorching from the sky and we take the bus and train back to Tel Aviv.
