The Ghan, Katherine - Alice Springs

We spent the first night on the Ghan. The food is very good, and the staff is very friendly. The train is, as mentioned, quite old technically and when it operates, it is rather loud. The landscape at first was still comparable to the national parks visited. However, in contrast, there are farms with cattle herds and enormous pastures. Additionally, watermelons and mangoes are cultivated on a large scale. Some farms are larger than Switzerland. The phone coverage is quite poor; at best, there is a connection in the few small towns.
As we approach Alice Springs, the red heart of Australia, the landscape changes. It is not only largely flat, but there are no more trees, just bushes and grass that is already yellow.
