Adelaide

We arrived in Adelaide on the Ghan at 11:00. At the train station, the train had to be split in half to allow it to arrive at two platforms since they do not have a platform that is 780 m long. After we picked up our luggage, we headed to our hotel.

The hotel is centrally located, and almost all the sights are within walking distance. However, there is also a developed public transport system with metro, buses, and a tram line. The tram line is free in the city center.

We explored the shopping street, buildings, and restaurants. There are still many houses in the Victorian style, and among them, there are also neo-Victorian buildings. There are quite few pigeons here, and they have a crest (crested pigeon), even more than begging pigeons, but the Australian Ibis, which is about half the size of a stork.

Then we also picked up our laundry at the hotel and went to a laundromat, which went perfectly. While our clothes were washing, we took a short walk through the Botanical Garden. The garden is over 50 hectares large, has many giant trees, a small lake, and various themed areas. On the way back, we looked at some buildings of the University of Adelaide.

In the evening, we then went to the highest-rated French restaurant. It is a small restaurant, has a limited menu, and the staff speaks French. The best part is that we could confirm the top rating.

Our first impression of Adelaide is very positive. This is of course in contrast to the long time spent in rather wild areas. The city is very generously laid out, very clean, and overall urban. As for attractions, it may be modest for a city of a million.
