The second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki at 11:02 on August 9, 1945. It was a plutonium bomb with an explosive power about 50% stronger than that of the uranium bomb dropped on Hiroshima three days earlier. Plutonium is not only radioactive but also extremely toxic. However, Nagasaki was not the primary target; the military industrial area of Kokura was. There was a thick cloud cover there, and the Japanese had intentionally obscured the location with smoke. Since Nagasaki is surrounded by mountains, the destructive force was reduced. In addition, there had already been significant bombing raids in the days leading up to this, which resulted in part of the city being evacuated. Consequently, we wanted to first visit the Peace Park and the Peace Museum, which are dedicated primarily to the atomic bombing.
