We are getting closer to our first destination of the world tour. Los Angeles was practically just a stopover to break up the long journey from Frankfurt to Hawaii. A nice sleep instead of dozing off uncomfortably in an airplane seat ... After all, our flight to LA took eleven hours, and from LA to Kona, it takes another five hours. Doing that in one go, with a layover in LA and uncertain waiting times at the immigration desk, felt decidedly exhausting.
We took the hotel shuttle to the airport in LA without breakfast. With two granola bars, we managed to have a lovely breakfast in the waiting area at the gate. We promised ourselves a nice lunch on Hawaiian Airlines.
The flight was fully booked, and we only received our seat assignments at the gate. This is also a very unusual procedure. Fortunately, they did not separate us but seated us together, with an aisle in between. My neighbor was a rather large person, and the seats were not as
