What an atmosphere! Whether young or old – anyone who isn't swept away here must be blind and deaf. Under the disco ball on the ceiling, accompanied by light and music effects, one cycling event follows another. And of course, the anthem of the 6-Day Race rings out repeatedly: the legendary Sportpalast Waltz with its unmistakable four whistles. The piece, first whistled by Reinhold Habisch, known as "Krücke," in 1923, has long become a classic. Many visitors even bring their own whistles, just in case they can't whistle well with their fingers – contributing to the unique atmosphere. Additionally, enthusiastic clapping often takes place with fan-shaped boxes provided by a sponsor. However, the 6-Day Race actually bears its name unfairly nowadays, as it only takes place on Fridays and Saturdays since 2023. Financial challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic are a main reason for this. Nevertheless, the traditional event has great plans for the future. I can only recommend that everyone experience this spectacle live at least once. Such a fantastic atmosphere, combined with top-level sports – exhilarating, entertaining, and full of passion. It was simply fantastic! We will be back.
